When I emptied the large box to fill the box for Karen, I discovered another box the same size underneath it...........filled with guess what...........about Another 400 fabric sample packets! This will go on until they are gone! I have More Than Enough small pieces of fabric to see me through as long as I live! And I just don't have it in me to throw them away!
Really don't have a lot to talk about today..........still plugging away on the Bristol potholder quilt for the show in July. Think I am working on the Last Hard One (the ones that needed to be drafted) and then I should be able to work faster on the easier ones that I think I can just rotary cut after determining measurements! Here are 5 that are bound. One is in the hoop being quilted. Another is ready to be quilted. And another is quilted waiting for binding.
Actually, the Sawtooth Star was Not one of the hard ones....I just picked it as my first block to get started as I was very used to 6" Stars after making 97 during last year's Most Enjoyable journey with Barbara Brackman through her Stars in a Time Warp block of the week!! Can't work on that (or anything else!) until this project is done!!
I love feeding birds and I took photos to show my granddaughter who gave me the lovely bird feeder hanging near the window so I can watch birds when having coffee and reading the newspaper each morning!
See my beautiful cardinal?! Had to have an extra bale of hay placed on the banking so I could stand on it to fill the feeders!
..The view from inside..........
Lots of goldfinches this year! Love being able to see them so closely!!
Another feeding station in front of the shop....a lovely snowy day! Cardinal decided to join the little Juncos. Really need to look for a new camera that has better zoom capability!! What's holding me back?........Knowing that I will need to learn new things to operate it!!
Almost forgot...........new fabric arrived this week! Mary's Blenders from Mary Koval.
Love this Turquoise Blue .....design is repeated from her Tree of Life collection that I love!
Loverly textured green for leaf applique!!
The next 3 are a clamshell motif in gold, rust and indigo blue......have to tell you the colors because that is another reason I need to new camera.....colors are not true.....tho it is likely the fault of the flash!
Guess that is it until next time...........................Continue to leave comments if you want to be included in the drawing for the Next Box of Samples!! I sure hope they are of use to those who want to make small quilts.!! I'll draw another name in a week or so!
I love your potholder blocks. I would love some more scraps for little quilts. Thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeletecoming along nicely on your antique repro for the show....it'll be a beauty no doubt...and lovely bird photos..they are fun to watch...this time of year when i'm on the interstate i often see hawks in trees watching for snacks...LOL
ReplyDeleteI enjoy watching birds, especially the goldfinches as they change their colors. Thanks for a chance to expand my scrap collection, they would be handy when I make little quilts.
ReplyDeleteYour hotpads are too beautiful to use! I love your view of the birds and the bird feeders. And the snow!
ReplyDeleteThanks for offering the samples. You are so generous.

Congrats to Karen!
ReplyDeleteThose blocks are beautifully made.
Love the shot of the Cardinal with the Juncos.
Add me to the mix please, Cyndi.
ReplyDeleteWatching the birds at the feeders is one of my favorite past times. I find it so relaxing.
Your potholders are so pretty that they look to nice to use! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGuess I should explain! They are not really potholders, but are made in what we call potholder style. Each little block is quilted and bound......a separate little quiltlet in itself. Then, they are joined by whipstitching to make a quilt. My friend Wendy is a Queen of Potholder quilts....check out her blog on my bloglist (which I should add to if I think of it at the same time I have some Time!!
DeleteIs that Windy at "Legend and Lace"?
DeleteI am a birdwatcher too.
ReplyDeleteOops, comment posted before I was done..... I love cardinals too! Once I had 4 adult males with their babies under my feeder- I was amazed! The babies actually look larger than the adults, I can only tell that they are babies because their beaks are dark, not orange. I love my chickadees too!
ReplyDeletePlease enter me for the next drawing. I too, love cardinals. Their color is brillant.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy, Janie
Pretty fabrics. My birds are slowly returning to the area, so nice to hear their songs. Samples are more then welcome. 24Tangent@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteYour potholder quilt pieces are wonderful. I might have to try making a potholder quilt after seeing your progress. And, yes I am interested in the samples. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLovely post with lovely birds and fabrics !
ReplyDeleteAnd of course, congratulations to Karen !

ReplyDeleteAnd of course, congratulations to Karen !
Hi, I love the new fabric. I am coming in today (Saturday) to pick up a few more creams. I also have a question about a block I was working on. I hope the cardinal is still out there!
ReplyDeleteLove your potholder quilts and can't wait to see it all together. We haven't had any snow here in the KC area but my birds have been keeping me entertained all winter. I've got 11 pairs of cardinals, chickadees, a couple of tuffted titmouse, some house sparrows, finches and Juncos that I watch while sewing. It's funny how fast the birds learn. They learned that one cat is old and lazy and won't chase them while the kitten is to uncoordinated to even worry about so they just keep eating from the feeder and ignore the cats.
ReplyDeleteI know how you feel about throwing away scraps. I have 1" HST's that I make from my smallest scraps so samples would be more than welcome to join the group.
I am a backyard birder as well. Would love to win some samples. Thank you for the opportunity.
ReplyDeleteFeeding the birds here too! Please enter me in the next sample drawing.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing that brilliant flash of red of a cardinal in the winter! That is such a lovely reminder of the seasons of colour that will follow the drabness of winter!!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were on holidays in southern Ontario, I saw my first Cardinal!!! I did not realize how small they were, it was a wonderful surprise in many ways!! Oh! I'd love to be in the next draw, thanks!!
ReplyDeleteA shop down in Ohio was making the potholder quilts one time when we were there and I admired them so much AND I love yours also. I need to try that technique. Cardinals were my mom's favorite bird-I always smile when I see one.
ReplyDeleteWould love another chance to win some little samples of fabric - love to hear how they keep appearing out of now where!
ReplyDeleteI like your potholder blocks -- I just recently purchased an antique log cabin made that way. And, I worked on a group quilt with people making potholder blocks -- it's a good way to share the work.

ReplyDeleteCongrats to Karen. Love seeing your blocks and your lovely New England winter scenes.
ReplyDeleteLove the new fabric!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!!
I love all sizes of scraps. You just never know in which quilt they will end up. Sometimes it only takes a little bit to add that special sparkle. Thanks for the chance to win some of yours.
ReplyDeleteHi Cyndi, Love your feeders! I love bird watching also.
ReplyDeleteI thank you for the chance to win the beautiful fabric.
Sharon
I love watching birds too, and love scraps!
ReplyDeleteYour post reminds me that if I put some birdseed in the feeders, I'll actually attract some birds. Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteAs a big fan of small blocks, I'm admiring your potholder blocks. Another thing to add to my bucket list.
We love feeding the birds and buy 2 50lb bags of sunflower seed at a time, plus suet blocks. The woodies love those since we buy the peanut ones. Would love to win some of your samples. Those miniature quilt magazines are waiting for me! :-)
ReplyDeleteNancy in Ct.
I love the designs of the potholder blocks because each one is pretty enough to decorate my sewing room.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy all my feeders on my farm. I have six of them and they are crowded with all types of birds. We had ten mates of cardinals, blue jays and some morning doves and all the usual wood peckers.
How lucky you are to have so many samples to choose from
I never heard of the pot holder quilt method. Interested to see it complete. Love your fabric give-always, and the cardinal, too!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog by way of Barbara Brackman's recent post. What a delight! The beautiful new fabrics are tempting, and the pot holder quilt is intriguing. Please enter my name in the fabric drawing.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried a potholder quilt before but the process looks interesting. I'd love to enter your fabric giveaway as I'm doing Audrey's Quilty 365 project and these would provide so much added variety to the appliqued circles.
ReplyDeleteI just went to a wonderful workshop with Wendy yesterday and have finished my first 2 potholder blocks! I love it. I certainly would turn those samples into blocks for my projects!
ReplyDeleteI'm always interested in scraps and use them. It is my mission.
ReplyDeleteYour potholder blocks are very pretty. I would love a box of samples.
ReplyDeleteI am working on a little charm quilt, sample scraps would come in handy, just saying. The worst part of this project is the mess it makes of the sewing room when pulling out all the fabrics just to clip and little 3 inch corner of each piece. But even more of a challenge is putting it all away again afterwards!
ReplyDeleteI heart small quilts! Love making them for my home and for gifts...would love to receive some of your samples. The cardinals are so pretty aren't they :)

ReplyDeleteThanks so much--I will make good use of those fabrics! I wish my sewing room window was in a good spot for a feeder--I think I would need a pulley system or something to fill it though! Your potholder blocks are looking wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love snow! You really have a beautiful winter wonderland outside your window...quilting while watching the flakes fall is one of my favorite things. Thank you for a great giveaway!Ann in PA quiltfeather (at) yahoo (dot)com
ReplyDeleteLove your beautiful birds. If they were outside my window I would never get any sewing done!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the first winter we were able to feed the birds. It brings such pleasure. Amazing how many are around in the cold Wisconsin weather. Thanks for the chance at your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteYes, Please, I would like to be entered in the drawing. Thanks so much Diane dn_kby@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteAll that snow--very pretty but looks quite cold! Lovely blocks/quilts for the Bristol potholder quilt. I'm looking forward to seeing it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for chance at next give away.
The potholder blocks look so good all together! I know you think you are behind, but believe me, I am way behind where I thought I'd be at this point with mine. Love the snow and bird pictures!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Karen.Beautiful blocks and fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI live in a warm area and many years without snow and months without rain.
I have a Cd with birds song and it`s very relaxing.
Have a fun week.
Goodness, you're getting quite a bit of snow. Good thing the birds can find your feeders. Dolly and I would love to win any fabric samples. New colors are always appreciated.
ReplyDeleteI see you still have winter so the little birds would really appreciate your feeders . We are expecting a storm tomorrow so time to fill our feeders too . Thanks for the chance on your scraps , I love to make scrappy quilts.

ReplyDeleteOh to have red cardinals come to my feeder! :o(

ReplyDeleteYour pot holder blocks are very well done. Is there a picture of the quilt you are working from?
ReplyDeleteI really love your potholder blocks. Recently after finding The Constant Quilter, I started my own potholder quilt. I'd love to have some of your sample fabrics to add to the stash.
DeleteThose potholder blocks are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI love your potholder block quilt. I'm new to this type of quilts. and if I wasn't told it was a potholder I would have thought it to be a modern variation of a log cabin. Thank you for the opportunity to get some of your scraps.
