Finally got around to choosing a photo for my "header"! It is from a log cabin quilt I finished this spring ......blocks are about 3" with 1/4" "logs". I saw one in the Wenham Museum (Wenham, Massachusetts) in 2005 and fell in love with it. Worked on it off and on for 5 years. Here is a close-up one of of the blocks. The quilt contains 320 blocks. Instead of ties in the red centers, I handquilted around them. The quilt was so cuddly as I quilted on it!

Mr. Wonderful and I have been exploring the area lately. It’s so beautiful
here. We met some wild burros! They are so adorable! And rather friendly.

It's quite an accomplishment, 320 three-inch blocks, and hand quilted, no less. Your quilt show ribbon was well deserved.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty Cyndi!! Your work always fascinates me. Am looking forward to another visit to your shop before winter. Want a few more civil war fabs to work with in colors I don't already have.
ReplyDeleteNot to be nitpickey or anything...I actually made 383 blocks but 63 went into my little log cabin quilt! I had planned to make this fullsize but decided to stop at this size and start another with 3/8" logs that will leave a little sliver of space for handquilting! Most antique log cabin quilts were tied or just left as is but I like the process of handquilting as well as the finished product!
ReplyDeleteForgot my manners to first say "Thank You" for your kind comments, Sue and Nancy!
ReplyDeleteCyndi, love the new look of your blog. The quilt is beautiful and quiet the accomplishment.

Wow, what a beautiful quilt - and teeny, tiny pieces!!! Wonderful header picture for the blog! I can't imagine working that small!

Just beautiful! You won't believe it, but I'm going to "whip up" a log cabin for a friend, beginning today, as a christmas present. Won't have time to hand quilt it, but wanted to make a sofa throw for her.
ReplyDeleteWhat a treasure this is!
